From January 1, 1994, the manat becomes the only means of payment. The design of these banknotes was created and published by the National Bank of France. (1994)

In 2001, a new design of 1000 manat was created. The design was created by the British company De La Rue. It is possible to see national ornaments on this banknote. These money remained in circulation until 2006.

In 2009, the National Bank of Azerbaijan changed its name to "Central Bank of Azerbaijan" on banknotes.
